چکیده

Abstract. Conceptual ice stream land systems derived from geomorphological and sedimentological observations provide constraints on ice–meltwater–till–bedrock interactions palaeo-ice beds. Within these systems, the spatial distribution formation processes of ribbed bedforms remain unclear. We explore conditions under which may develop their organization with (i) an experimental model that reproduces dynamics streams subglacial (ii) analysis selected examples beds Laurentide Ice Sheet. find a specific kind bedform can subglacially through soft-bed deformation, where flow undergoes lateral or longitudinal velocity gradients ice–bed interface is unlubricated; oblique beneath shear margins, whereas transverse below frontal lobes. infer strike orthogonally to compressing axis horizontal strain ellipse surface development reveals distinctive types drainage patterns: linked cavities margins efficient meltwater channels These act as convenient geomorphic markers reconstruct constrain dynamics, characteristics streams.

Ribbed bedforms on palaeo-ice stream beds resemble regular patterns of basal shear stress (‘traction ribs’) inferred from modern ice streams

Rapidly-flowing ice streams are an important mechanism through which ice sheets lose mass, and much work has been focussed on elucidating the processes that increase or decrease their velocity. Recent work using standard inverse methods has inferred previously-unrecognised regular patterns of high basal shear stress (‘sticky spots’ >200 kPa) beneath a number of ice streams in Antarctica and Gre...

Shear heating and weakening of the margins of West Antarctic ice streams

Ice streams are fast flowing bands of ice separated from stagnant ridges by shear margins. The mechanisms controlling the location of the margins remain unclear. We use published ice deformation data and a simple one-dimensional thermal model to show that West Antarctic ice stream margins have temperate ice over a substantial fraction of their thickness, a condition that may control their width...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Subglacial hydrology and the formation of ice streams

Antarctic ice streams are associated with pressurized subglacial meltwater but the role this water plays in the dynamics of the streams is not known. To address this, we present a model of subglacial water flow below ice sheets, and particularly below ice streams. The base-level flow is fed by subglacial melting and is presumed to take the form of a rough-bedded film, in which the ice is suppor...
